Visit by the Danish Minister of Development Cooperation and Nordic Cooperation

The Danish Minister for Development Cooperation & Nordic Cooperation, Mr. Flemming Møller Mortensen visited India from 10-13 August, 2022.

The purpose of the visit of Mr. Mortensen was to review Green Strategic Partnership and follow up on agreements in the Joint Action Plan. The minister and delegations visit started in Delhi, with a warm welcome at The Royal Danish Embassy.

With a visit to Dinapur Sewage Treatment Plant in Varanasi on 11th August, there was a special focus on water and especially the Jal Jeevan Mission, initialized by Prime Minister Shri. Narendra Modi, to provide clean drinking water to approximately 190 million households by the end of 2024.As PM Modi said, India has the scale and Denmark has the skill. Mr. Mortensen stated that Denmark has the responsibility to be an inspiration and to share and concretize our green solutions with India.

Mr. Mortensen visited The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) campus at Gwal Pahari. This visit was important for the collaboration of Indo-Danish institutions in fields of knowledge and science.

The minister stated that this exchange is crucial to live up to the 5 S’s that PM Narendra Modi have stated for the Green Strategic Partnership: Scale, Skill, Speed, Scope and Sustainability.PM Narendra Modi also mentioned the importance of stopping global warming for India going forward, in his speech at the Red Fort on 15th of August, as India celebrated 75 years of Independence.

During his visit, the minister met with the Indian Minister for Jal Shakti, Mr. Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Indian Minister for Health & Family Welfare, Mr. Mansukh Mandaviya and External Affairs Minister of India, Dr. S. Jaishankar.
