The Embassy celebrates World Bicycle Day & World Environment Day
On the occasion of World Bicycle Day held on 3rd June and World Environment Day, 5th June, the Royal Danish Embassy in New Delhi organised a panel discussion on the theme- ‘Exploring Untapped benefits of Cycling on Environment & how it can alleviate Climate Change’.
The panel included key speakers, Mr. Martin Strandgaard, Deputy Head of Mission, Ms. Bharati Chaturvedi, Founder, Chintan, Ms. Marianne Weinreich, Chair, Cycling Embassy of Denmark, Ms. Jeenal Sawla, Principal Advisor, Smart Cities Mission, Ministry of Housing & Urban Affiars, Government of India, Ms. Harpreet Bajaj, Principal Transport Economist, Rambøll India.
The keynote address was given by Dr. Vibha Dhawan, Director General, The Energy & Resources Institute (TERI), India.
The panelists during the discussion spoke about cycling & how can it help in conserving the environment. The panelists also threw light on the cycling infrastructure in Denmark, promoting cycling smart mobility, ongoing campaigns on cycling by Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MOUHA) and how can both the nations can get inspired from each other. The event saw participation of guests like FIT India Ambassadors under Fit India Movement, cycling and climate enthusiasts, cycling clubs, representatives from Environment NGOs, think tanks, and was covered by Indian press.
Overall, it was an insightful and engaging panel discussion on promoting cycling and its huge impact on climate change, followed by an interesting Q&A session.
