India’s Green Fuels - Baseline Market Study and Roadmap

New Report ‘India’s Green Fuels: Baseline Market Study and Roadmap’ Highlights Opportunities for Danish Collaboration

India is rapidly emerging as a leader in green fuels, propelled by ambitious policies and strategic investments aimed at accelerating its decarbonisation journey. As one of the world’s largest energy consumers, India is working to reduce its dependence on fossil fuels and scale up renewable alternatives in line with its net-zero target for 2070.

In 2024, the Green Fuels Alliance India (GFAI) was launched by the Trade Council of Denmark to support this transition by fostering collaboration between Indian and Danish businesses, government bodies, research institutions, and financial stakeholders. The alliance laid the groundwork for analysing India’s evolving green energy landscape and identifying entry points for Danish innovation and investment.

One of the key deliverables under GFAI was the flagship report India’s Green Fuels: Baseline Market Study and Roadmap, developed in collaboration with the consultancy Environmental Resources Management (ERM).

The study provides an in-depth analysis of five key green fuels—second-generation bioethanol, green hydrogen, ammonia, methanol, and Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF)—examining current market dynamics, future potential, and pathways for growth. It serves as a foundation for unlocking investment, innovation, and deeper industry engagement.

Since its inception, GFAI has evolved into the Green Transition Alliance India (GTAI), expanding its focus beyond fuels to include a broader spectrum of green technologies and solutions. As India intensifies its green energy transition, early movers with the right partnerships and strategies stand to benefit most.

Under the Green Strategic Partnership, India and Denmark continue to strengthen their collaboration, building a shared framework for sustainable energy leadership in the global transition.
