The Embassy is seeking to recruit an Officer for its political team with particular focus on adoptions from India. The position is created for a time-limited two-year period. You will be part of the Political and Communications Team and work in close cooperation with a 1st Secretary directly responsible for area.

 

You will be helping adoptees and their families gain insight into past cases and adoption histories. You will help the embassy establish a network amongst relevant Indian organisations and authorities. You will also help develop a procedure for managing adoption cases going forward.

 

In addition to the work on adoptions, you will be helping the political team with their regular coverage of Indian domestic affairs and foreign relations. The amount of time spent on political affairs will depend on the amount of cases and related work on adoptions. Some duty travel must be expected, as many adoption cases relate to southern Indian states where the Officer will also be required to establish a network and local understanding of case history. We are looking for a candidate with clear relevant professional background and experience in the field who is flexible, robust, detail-oriented, diligent and a team player.

 

Main tasks and responsibilities of Officer – Adoptions include, but are not limited to:

  • Help adoptees and their families gain insight into past cases and adoption histories
  • Help establish a network amongst relevant Indian organisations and authorities
  • Help develop a procedure for managing relevant adoption cases in the future
  • Assist the Political Team, including political coverage, delegation visits, preparation of background and meeting notes etc.
  • Any other task as assigned by management.

Required qualifications

  • An academic Master’s degree in law, politics, or other relevant education.
  • Proven professional experience in the adoptions area, e.g., in a non-government or government body.
  • An established network in relevant organisations and agencies.
  • Responsible and independent.
  • Strong practical/logistical skills with attention to detail and ability to keep an overview and juggle multiple tasks at the same time;
  • Flexible team player with inter-cultural understanding: strong interest in and willingness to share knowledge with – and learn from – colleagues;
  • Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to establish professional relationships and represent the embassy in a professional manner when engaging with external partners;
  • Proactive with an ability to work independently and efficiently, and to deliver in stressful situations;
  • Excellent computer literacy and MS Office skills;
  • Fluency in English.

Employment conditions

  • You will be offered full time employment on a fixed-term local contract, in a position created for a time-limited two-year period. Your contract is initially for 1 year with possibility of 1 year extension.
  • Your employment is based on the relevant legally binding labour market rules of India.
  • 13th month salary
  • Your salary will reflect your qualifications, relevant experience and proven work-related results in accordance with the Salary Policy of the Embassy
  • You will be entitled to 25 days of paid holiday per year
  • As part of your salary, you will be enrolled in the EPF-scheme
  • Standard working hours are 37 hours per week
  • Medical coverage (80:20, where 80% of the medical expenditure is reimbursed by the Embassy)
  • Willingness to travel for work is required.
